Anadolu Hisar is located on the Anatolian side of the Boshporus, the area where Göksu River combines with the sea. Anadolu Hisar which was commissioned by Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid who wanted to conquer Istanbul and besieged the city with an aim to obstruct the aid to Byzantine Empire from the Black Sea in 1394, was not given much consideration after the conquest of Istanbul.
Anadolu Hisar was supported in 1452 by Sultan Mehmet the conqueror during the construction of Rumeli Hisar in 1452, by adding of some new sections. The Hisar was used for some time as a prison and this Hisar played an important role in the stopping of Kazakhs attacking Boshporus in the 17th-18th centuries. In the following years, it lost its importance.
